The high school winter sports season wrapped up over the weekend, with both the King’s Boys and Girls Basketball teams competing in the Yakima Sundome for a chance to add to their state title trophy case. A strong showing of students and supporters of the King’s community saw a number of thrilling games, including buzzer-beating victories for both squads.
With an amazing cumulative grade point average of 3.826, the King’s Boys Basketball team has been recognized as Academic State Champions for Washington in the 1A classification. Congratulations to the King’s student athletes on the team, which span from grades 9 through 12.
Back on the court, the Knights boys team opened their state tournament play with a thrilling overtime victory over Bellevue Christian before dropping hard-fought matchups with Lynden Christian and Chelan.
The Knights girls’ team made it all the way to the state championship game before falling to Bellevue Christian. In an epic semifinal that will go down in tournament history, King’s eclipsed top-seeded Lynden Christian 45-44 thanks to tournament MVP Kaleo Anderson’s buzzer-beating three point shot.
