Gifts of Stock

Gifts of stock allow you to support CRISTA Ministries in a unique way. Publicly traded stocks or closely held stock can be donated via electronic transfer. In addition to receiving a federal income tax deduction, you may also avoid tax on your capital gains.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Prior to initiating your stock transfer, please contact our Donor Relations team at 206.289.7913 or by emailing us at [email protected]. Please inform us of the following:

• Stock type
• Number of shares
• Gift designation

To make an electronic transfer of stock, the following information should be provided to your broker:

**Please note that both account numbers are needed to complete a stock transfer.**

• The JP Morgan Receiving Account Number (P72500) should be listed first as the receiving account number
• The CRISTA Receiving Account Number (B46530006) must also be included in one of the following ways: as the second credit account number, in the notes section, or delivery instructions
• For Further Credit (FFC) instructions must be provided in the special instructions field by all contra firms

Bargain Sale

If you are interested in donating part of the proceeds from the sale of a property, a bargain sale might more effectively accomplish your goals. In a bargain sale, CRISTA Ministries purchases your piece of property at a substantially reduced price.

Ultimately you will receive some cash from the sale portion, be able to claim an income tax deduction from the gift portion of the transaction and avoid some or all taxes on your capital gains.

Charitable Lead Trusts

A charitable lead trust (CLT) helps you provide resources for your favorite ministry and receive tax benefits without giving up assets that you want your family to receive some day. A CLT may be funded with cash, stocks or property.

When the trust is established you chose a set period of years or the lifetime(s) of close family members during which the trust makes payments to the ministry you have designated. At the conclusion of the term, the assets in the trust are passed to you, a family member or other beneficiary you’ve selected.

Wills

Your will ensures that your earthly treasure goes to the purposes you choose. When you include CRISTA Ministries in your will you are creating a legacy that will share the love of Christ with generations to come.

Beneficiary Designations

Naming CRISTA Ministries as a beneficiary is a flexible way to provide future resources after you no longer need them. The designation is easy to change and can be split between multiple beneficiaries, including your heirs. Since non-profits are exempt from the income taxes that would be owed by your heirs, some assets are better to donate from a tax standpoint. A beneficiary designation can be made in connection with:

• Life Insurance
• Bank or brokerage accounts
• IRAs and other retirement plans
• U.S. Savings Bonds
• Commercial annuity contracts

Gift Annuities

A charitable gift annuity is the oldest, simplest, and most popular life income gift. It provides you or someone else you designate with fixed annual payments for the rest of your or their lives.

Your gift annuity will provide some benefit to CRISTA Ministries while also giving you payments over the life of the annuity, and when the gift annuity ends the entire remaining balance of your contribution will go to support CRISTA Ministries’ work and mission. In addition to guaranteeing you a reliable stream of payments that are favorably taxed for many years, a charitable gift annuity also provides a charitable tax deduction.

Charitable Remainder Trust

A Charitable Remainder Trust is a way to make sure that you maximize the value of your gift to CRISTA Ministries. Stocks, bonds, mutual funds, and real estate can be placed in a Charitable Remainder Trust at any time. Once in the trust, these assets can be sold by the trustee without incurring tax on the capital gain. The proceeds from the sale of the asset (less the costs of sale) are invested to provide a flow of income to you or your loved ones. At the end of the trust, normally upon the death of the income beneficiaries, the remaining principal is used to benefit the CRISTA Family of Ministries.
