June 23, 2026 (SEATTLE, WA) – CRISTA Ministries has announced the appointment of Peter Macharia to serve as President of World Concern, the Seattle-based Christian global relief and development organization serving individuals and communities facing extreme poverty in nine countries throughout Africa and Asia.
Macharia has been an integral part of World Concern since his arrival in 2003, having served as Kenya Country Director, South Sudan Country Director, Africa Regional Disaster Response Director, Africa Area Director, Vice President of Operations, and most recently, Interim President. Like the ministry he now leads, Macharia has dedicated his life to serving in some of the poorest, most remote communities throughout the world. Having been born and raised in Kenya, his desire to help fight global poverty was fostered as he earned both a Bachelor of Arts in Education (Kenyatta University in Nairobi, Kenya) and Master of Arts in Geography (Egerton University in Njoro, Kenya).
As President of World Concern, Peter will lead the ministry in its sustained effort to extend lifesaving help and opportunity to people facing the most profound human challenges of extreme poverty. World Concern’s areas of expertise range from disaster response and child protection to providing clean water, education, food security and other resources to those ‘at the end of the road.’ Originally founded in 1955, World Concern is one of five ministries of CRISTA, joined by King’s Schools, CRISTA Camps, CRISTA Media and CRISTA Senior Living.
